Data Integration and Sharing Workshop

Understanding and solving data integration and sharing problems

13 - 14 September 2005

Kings College, Cambridge, UK

Workshop benefits

The workshop will provide attendees with practical advice on data integration and sharing problems. Emphasis will be placed on environments where the product/project lifecycle is orders of magnitude longer than those of software solutions, e.g. aerospace/defence, shipbuilding and process industries. In particular:

  • A thorough understanding of the data exchange, migration, sharing and integration problems, including:

    • Why they arise

    • Why they continue to be widespread

    • What can be done to solve them

  • Best practice for managing product information, including:

    • Practical tips and potential pitfalls to avoid

    • Perceptions and realities about data exchange

    • Capabilities, constraints and limitations of different approaches to data integration and sharing

  • Walk through typical data and information integration scenarios, including:

    • How to derive maximum value from investment in product information

    • How can standards such as PLCS (ISO 10303 - AP 239) can be used effectively
