Our history

In 1993 Datamation launched the Engineering Data Newsletter (EDN). This soon became established as the definitive reference publication on Product Lifecycle Management and associated standards and methodologies for engineering and manufacturing organisations around the globe. Monthly in-depth features on the burning issues surrounding product data management and computer aided technologies made it essential reading for senior managers and executives in most industry sectors, including aerospace, automotive, manufacturing, electrical & electronic, oil & gas, process, shipping and telecoms, as well as those in virtually all the major PLM, CPC, CAD, CAM, CAE and STEP companies.

In keeping with technological advances and reader preferences, in January 2000 EDN evolved into an online publication. This now forms one of the foundation stones of our Portal Service - ‘EngineeringOnline’.

Datamation’s PLM Vision

PLM is not PDM with a new name. A PLM solution serves everyone within an organisation, and manages all the organisation’s products and services through their respective lifecycles. A PLM solution must therefore be seen as a live entity rather than a one-off point solution.

That is, PLM evolves by adding, refining or replacing functions and components rather than wholesale replacement of a system. Such an evolutionary approach is only possible with new architectures that provide a foundation onto which modular multi-vendor components can be built, as no one vendor can cater for all and every organisation needs.

Supporting all PLM professionals

Developing the strategy and deploying PLM solutions requires a new approach and criteria. Datamation are at the forefront of defining what PLM is and more importantly how it can be applied to be of benefit.

We analyse all the major PLM solutions and associated products and services to produce comprehensive guides that will assist organisations in the selection of solutions. Our extensive collection of best practice and education material delivers the crucial information needed to steer an organisation around the many pitfalls that can befall it. For those organisations that would like more in-depth assistance, our consulting services can assist in any aspects of selection, deployment and use of PLM.
